Gettysburg DFA Healthcare Task Force wins “Grassroots Activism Award” from PHAN
The Pennsylvania Health Access Network (PHAN) has awarded Gettysburg DFA’s Healthcare Task Force its “Grassroots Activism Award” for 2018. Task force chairs Sandy Busche and Jeanne Duffy and other task force members will travel to the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Harrisburg to receive the award on October 14 during PHAN’s annual conference.
The letter associated with the award from Executive Director Antoinette Kraus reads in part as follows, “we often hear that ‘all politics is local’ and for the healthcare fight, this is certainly true. The Healthcare Task Force of Gettysburg DFA has built a local, sustained, organized, thoughtful, and action oriented grassroots base of people passionate about healthcare. Our rural communities can gain so much from better healthcare and this is what makes your work in Gettysburg so important. We have seen the Healthcare Task Force show up at countless events and often be willing to take the lead on important actions and advocacy. Whether its rallies, voter registration, community forums, educational events, or campaigns for a better system, you all are there. You all always show up and always take action. It is this kind of leadership that makes our communities strong and helps our neighbors and friends think critically about important healthcare issues. Thank you all for everything you do.”
Sandy and Jeanne along with other task force members have worked tirelessly to develop a strong relationship with PHAN recognizing that without connections to statewide organizations such as PHAN and Healthcare for All PA (where our own Dr. Dwight Michael serves as a board member) our efforts are much less likely to gain traction. We’re proud of all of you!
