About us

Gettysburg Area Democracy for America is an inclusive grassroots community group of over 800 persons committed to the progressive values underlying and sustaining our democracy:

  • equal opportunity
  • social justice
  • personal liberty
  • protection of our natural environment
  • fiscal responsibility
  • access for all to good health care and education, and
  • peace and security through international cooperation and diplomacy.

“A happy and healthy community is not a fairytale. All you need is a seed.”

— NADIA Shabazz, FOUNDER

We support these progressive values through monthly educational programs, community organizing, and citizen lobbying at the local, state and national levels. Gettysburg Area DFA also seeks to elect progressive candidates and hold our elected officials accountable.

Get Involved

If you live near one of our gardens, get involved to receive portions of each harvest. We accept volunteers regardless of skill level. There is a rotation in roles, but we’ll teach you all the skills you need to know. Teenagers 14 years and older can earn community service credits for school in addition to getting produce for their families. Donations are also vital to our growth, as we use them for seed, fertilizer, tools, and outreach.
