LTE: Supports reproductive choice
Editor, Gettysburg Times,
Regarding Kerr Thompson and Mark Punchard Sr.’s opposing letters to the editor on reproductive choice, I agree with both, in that each has come up with his own point of view following deep reflection. Each has wrestled with his own ethical, moral and spiritual beliefs. Each has the right to engage in personal practices consistent with his own opinion.
Mr. Thompson says nothing about forcing others to bend to his will. Mr. Punchard, on the other hand, would force women to abide by his views, regardless of their own beliefs, health, and individual circumstances. While he is free to make decisions in his own life that reflect his opinions, he is not free to force these opinions on the rest of us.
In November, I will be voting for candidates who support reproductive choice: Marty Qually for state representative, Josh Shapiro for PA governor, and John Fetterman for U.S. senator. Each of these proven candidates respects individuals to make their own best decisions around this extremely complex and deeply personal matter.
