Announcement from Blue Storm Action

Hello everyone—

Below are some action items to consider this week:

Tonight, June 10th at 7:00 the American Civil Liberties Union will host on Zoom a Know Your Rights training in preparation for the nationwide mobilization of protesters who will gather this Saturday, June 14th for “No Kings Day”. This training will prepare you to show up safely and confidently to avoid ugly confrontations. Sign up here to register.

Saturday, June 14th 12:00-1:00 p.m. Lincoln Square, Gettysburg is the place to continue to resist and protest the authoritarian regime that is destroying our democracy.

Friday, June 20th, 5:00-7:00 p.m., Blue Storm Action Meet-Up at the UUG Church in Gettysburg. It should be an enjoyable and informative evening. Patti Robinson of Gettysburg Mediation Services will give us some tips on de -escalating protest altercations (we had several two Saturdays ago). Tim Smith will give us his views on the “art of protest” and Donate Gardner will provide live protest music.

Contact Senators McCormick and Fetterman, if you have not done so already. Tell them to oppose the House passed version of H.R. 1, The “One Big Beautiful Bill”. In addition to being fiscally irresponsible by adding $2.7 trillion to the already soaring federal budget debt, the bill will cut billions in Medicaid, and other federal “safety net” programs. Despite Republican promises to leave Medicare intact, the bill could trigger over $500 billion in automatic cuts to Medicare due to “PAYGO”, a budget rule that requires any reduction in revenue to be offset by cuts in other areas of the budget. Here is a link to the 5-Calls issue brief.

Following up on last week’s announcement by the Trump Administration listing Adams County and the Borough of Gettysburg as “sanctuary” jurisdictions, I am attaching the Borough of Gettysburg’s Police Department policy. It does not read as if Gettysburg is a “sanctuary” jurisdiction. Nevertheless, we need to keep our eyes and ears open, and be prepared for more ICE presence in Adams County.

See you soon,

Lois
