Dear friends,
I just wanted to touch base with you to fill you in on what’s been happening with Gettysburg Rising lately. We had a terrific time at the Cumberland Township National Night Out engaging the kids with trivia and rewarding them with fun prizes (see attached photo). Thanks to all of you who volunteered or donated prizes. We’ll do the same thing at the Heritage Festival on Sunday, 9/21 at the Gettysburg Rec Park from noon-4pm. We also have information for adults, and just love saying hello to friendly faces – so stop on by! Would you like to help us represent Gettysburg Rising at the Heritage Festival? Let me know, we’d be happy to have you join us at the table.
A few notes regarding our Anti-political violence campaign:
- Sign our petition asking Sheriff Muller to resign. He probably won’t resign, but he may apologize, and it also sets the tone for law enforcement and the new sheriff who will be elected this November. Please share this petition widely, and also read the coverage that came out yesterday from CBS Local21news and Fox43.
- If you would like to be part of the group that hand delivers a hard copy of the petition to Sheriff Muller at his office at the courthouse in Gettysburg (date to be determined), please let me know.
- Call your state rep and ask them to co-sponsor Malcolm Kenyatta’s “Keeping Candidates and Public Officials Safe” bills. If your rep is Dan Moul, his phone number is 717-334-3010, and Torren Ecker’s is 717-259-7805.
- We are planning a gathering at the State Capitol on 9/16. More information coming closer to the date
Also coming up in the fall is another candidate forum. We will invite the two candidates for the GASD special election to speak, since they were not at our spring forum, and we will also invite both Gettysburg Mayoral Candidates to a debate, since both candidates passed the primary – one is one the D ticket and the other is on the R ticket (despite them both being registered Dems). For many of the other races (Judge of Court of Common Pleas, Sheriff, GASD general election) you can watch the coverage of our forums from the spring on the Community Media website since not much has changed.
With gratitude,
Jenny
