Hi everyone,

I’m Douglas Page, a Gettysburg resident and ACDC member organizing its’ get out the vote’ efforts (GOTV).

Now that we’re back to an ‘odd year’ election, it’s up to us to turn out voters and win elections without assistance from state and federal parties. We have important races from the school board to the state supreme court, and we very much need your help.

Door-knocking is our most effective tool for turning out our voters, so that’s what I emphasize. Phone-banking is a good substitute if door-knocking isn’t feasible for you.

These days, a lot of training and preparation can be done remotely. You can download an app on your phone called MiniVan (sometimes called MiniVan Touch in the app stores), which accesses your list of doors/addresses and provides you with useful information about the voter and your walking route.

Here’s an instructional video:

Once you’ve downloaded MiniVan and watched the video, here’s a practice ‘list number’ (representing Chambersburg Street in Gettysburg) to enter so you can see this tool in action.

I can provide lists for you for door-knocking and phone-banking at your convenience. The lists I put together will be lists of Democrats/Democratic supporters. The ‘script’ is simply to introduce yourself as a local Democrat and ask the voter to please turn out to vote in November and/or turn in their mail-in ballot.

I encourage you to envision yourself as a reminder that leads people to vote, as opposed to a persuader that shifts people’s attitudes.

By the end of month, the committee should have volunteers at our headquarters (24 Chambersburg Street, Gettysburg) on Saturday afternoons to provide training and lists for those who want in-person attention. You can “get out the vote” on your own schedule, though.

I hope to hear from you with any questions and requests for lists. I can provide them anywhere in Adams County. Feel free to spread my contact info to interested folks.

Best,

Douglas Page
